It is that time of year again! Operation Christmas Child is kicking off the 2020 Season! During this time of Pandemic, it is crucial we reach out to those who do not know our Lord, Jesus Christ. As you know, the shoeboxes go primarily overseas. However, they also go to children on our Indian Reservations and to those in the US who are devastated by natural disasters.
Due to the Pandemic, we have several options for packing shoeboxes. We understand some folks are not comfortable shopping, so we are encouraged to “Build a Shoebox” online for a total cost of $25. That includes the $9 donation for shipping plus toys, games, school supplies and hygiene products! There are two ways to do this, you select what you want to be included in the box, or, you can opt for them to select for you. These shoeboxes go mostly to Unreached Peoples Groups, people who have never heard the Gospel of Jesus. These groups are unreached due to geographical, governmental, economical, and other restrictions.
We have established a Discretionary Fund for you to make donations to St. John’s UMC and the church will donate through the “Build a Shoebox” online option. We are doing this for a couple reasons: 1) The church will receive credit for each shoebox and 2) Pastor Ivan reports our participation to the Conference. We will send a letter to the members of the congregation with all the information.
We can still pack our own shoeboxes at home and include the $9 donation. We will have shoeboxes and hand-outs available at St John’s UMC beginning September 26th and every Saturday until November 1st.
Remember, NO USED ITEMS! Handmade items are great!
God Bless each of you!
